Della Bowditch nee Foster (1928 - 2018)
(information supply by J Markham )
Della was born Della Mary Foster in 1928, and very proud to be from Waunarlwydd. Her grandmother sold welsh blankets from her front room I think in Gowerton (I have some of them). Della worked in British Steel offices (now demolished) in Gowerton rising to the highest secretarial position, the personal assistant to the CEO of British Steel (in Wales or South Wales), Donald Davies. Apparently she had to climb a marble staircase their every day. Later after her husband Harold/Harry died she returned to work a second time now as secretaries to some of the professors in the University; Prof Knight-Jones in Zoology, and I believe also in Chemistry. One of their relatives I believe wrote a famous welsh song (maybe the national anthem - I cannot recall).
Harold (Harry) Bowditch (? - ?)
(information supply by J Markham )
Harold (Harry) Bowditch was born in Waunarlwydd or Gowerton and worked in British Steel also, but I think that was in Llanelli and not Gowerton and I think he went to Gowerton Grammer School. They both attended a few chapels Ebenezer Chapel in Dunvant and Sardis Chapel in Waunarlwydd, and their memorial stones are in the front garden, far left corner as you enter the front gate, of Sardis Chapel.
